Family Life Planner

Posted on November 09, 2012 by Sarah Stickland

In 2002 I was interviewed by a business magazine about my use of electronic planners. This was before the time of smart phones, but I had a fancy Palm Pilot. I explained to the reporter I was not the ideal person to interview since I kept missing appointments and that I had gone back to paper pencil. They used a lovely quote about me missing appointments, sigh.

Through the years I have tried to use an electronic calendar on my computer and smart phone, but I just don't like them. I am a visual person. Having my week layed out in front of me in a book that I can write on with my favourite coloured Sharpie pen is what works best for me. It's November, so I am researching my next planner, and found one that just might be perfect. Moleskine has a Family Life Planner. It has everything I need, a weekly format, stickers and plenty of room for notes. This planner will let me schedule both work and family all in one place. Like all parents, I live a busy life, and this just might be the perfect planner to keep up with me.

Moleskine planners can be purchased at many stationary stores including Papyrus and Chapters Indigo. Sharpie pens can be purchased almost anywhere, but Costco has a large multi-colour 20 pack for just $15.

Personalized Tic-Tac-Toe Gift Tag DIY

Posted on September 06, 2012 by Sarah Stickland

Special guest post by Alison the creator of The Petit Cadeau Blog

Have you ever received a gift tag that can be used AFTER all the other gift wrap items are long thrown away? When I started brainstorming with Sarah a few months ago, we collaborated and came up with this fabulous DIY printable gift tag that turns into a game! It’s the perfect way to add something extra-special to a child’s gift.

This tic-tac-toe gift tag is laminated so that each game can be “erased” and the tag used over and over again.  So fun!

Gather your supplies:

• scissors

• colour printer

printable gift tag sheet

• individual self-laminating sheets (available at office supply stores and some dollar stores)

• one hole punch

This free printable gift tag has several designs and colours to suit your gifting needs.

To begin, simply print the templates provided.

Then, cut out the gift tags, folding in half on the line.

Follow the directions for the self-laminating sheet. Peel back one side and carefully place your folded gift tag in the centre.  Gently lower the top half of the laminating sheet, smoothing as you go to ensure that you remove all of the air bubbles.

Use a one-hole punch to make a hole for securing your gift tag with ribbon, string, or your fastener of choice.

As an added bonus, include a set of wipeable crayons.  Sarah has tested a variety and recommends Melissa and Doug learning mat crayons.

The gift tag can be kept and used for mini tic-tac-toe games.  It would even make a perfectly sized travel game for the car!

Happy Gifting!

Personalized Placemat

Posted on August 22, 2012 by Sarah Stickland

After over a year of product testing I finally launched CHILDish placemats in July! Customers are extremely happy with the placemats that have a personalized face and name on the front and a letter tracing activity on the back. Each placemat comes with a set of wipe off crayons too.

Today I received this video from a very happy little boy. I've decided to call is Hungry Happy Heath. Take a peek, he'll make you smile :)

Crunch Cone

Posted on July 25, 2012 by Sarah Stickland

From 2004-2006 we lived in Madison, Wisconsin. I fell in love with many things during my stay in Madison, one of the small joys was ice cream. Wisconsin knows how to make ice cream, or as they call it, custard. Custard is like ice cream, but creamer and so much better (my mouth is watering just thinking about it).

Wisconsin also introduced me to the Crunch Cone, an ice cream cone with a crunchy topping. My favourite is a mixture of sprinkles and Rice Krispies, adds a little tasty crunch. Just mix some sprinkles with Rice Krispies in a bowl and roll the top of your ice cream in the tasty mixture. There are many different varieties of Crunch Cones, try this strawberry ice cream cone topped with crushed ginger snaps and pistachios. There are so many ways to personalize a crunch cone. Yum.

You (I mean your kids) will love it! Enjoy.
